ConceptSolutions Delivers FEMA Performance Metrics Report on Time and on Budget.
May 2004 - ConceptSolutions has just completed work on Phase I on the National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program (NEHRP) Performance Metrics project. The goal of the program is to conduct research into earthquakes, and reduce loss of life and structural damage resulting from earthquakes. It is a joint venture of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the U.S. Geological Survey, otherwise known as USGS.
The first phase of this project involved research on each agency's programs and contributions as well as development of performance measures that will enable NEHRP to determine its effectiveness and guide it in improving performance. ConceptSolutions staff of statistical analysis and quality engineering experts thoroughly researched each agency's contributions such as NSF's and NIST's basic research into earthquake causes and building materials, to USGS's development of "ShakeMaps" that enable emergency responders to know within minutes the severity and extent of the earthquake damage, to FEMA, which uses much of the research to design and recommend changes into the earthquake codes and responds to earthquakes as the leader of the Nation's emergency management system. ConceptSolutions devised 20 performance measures that will enable NEHRP to gauge its performance along its objectives. These measures will enable NEHRP to report to Congress and the public accurately
on the performance of its earthquake loss reduction efforts.
